Xiaomi Mi A2: a “pure” Android with a good camera
Last year Xiaomi Mi A1, which relied on a “pure” Android OS without third-party shells, was a very nice smartphone, although not without its shortcomings. This year Xiaomi replaced it with Xiaomi Mi A2, which pleased the impressive for the “average” performance, practical design and surprisingly better camera. Now I’m going to show nearly everything in detail.
Practical and Convenient
Xiaomi Mi A2 is very practical. While glass back panels confidently conquer the average price segment of the smartphone market, this device is enclosed in a completely metal casing with a matte surface. Someone might say that it is old-fashioned, but in reality, the phone looks great. Especially if you take a model of unusual blue instead of the usual black or gold classics. But there is a difference: if you do not like the thin plastic “slabs” of antennas on the body, then it’s better to stay on the black version. On it that they are practically invisible. There is still a very lovely red shell and, of course (too much without it!), “pink gold.”
The phone is big – the screen diagonal is 5.99 inches, but in fact, it’s not so scary. The display here is widescreen with an 18:9 aspect ratio, so the frames on the sides are quite thin plus the case itself is stretched vertically. In the end, in the hand, it is quite convenient, provided that you’ve already used something with a diagonal of 5.7 or at least 5.5 inches.
The fingerprint scanner is also familiar. The large circular sensor works quickly and accurately. It is located at the top of the back panel, where it is very convenient to apply the pad of the index finger. The camera lenses are far away – in the upper left corner, so there will be no problems with the stained protective glass. However, the lenses come forward very noticeably. When the smartphone is on the table and you need to press something on the screen without lifting it, the body begins to “move” from side to side. The solution is obvious – the use of the cover, which is now even carefully included in the delivery.
Now the bad news. Headphone Jack has become a victim of either ruthless designers, or engineers. No water protection in Mi A2. On the other hand, the device does not seem to claim one of the thinnest smartphone. So why force users to get used to the type-C to 3.5 mm mini-Jack? The question is rhetorical. And yet there is support for the aptX codec to transmit sound via Bluetooth with minimal loss in quality, potential owners of the smartphone will have to fork out for good wireless headphones to try this feature.
Xiaomi Mi A2 Screen is good, the games fly !!
The news that there is no cutout in the form of a “bang” on the top Xiaomi Mi A2 display will surely please many. There is a real wide angle classic: the good old rectangular screen based on the IPS-matrix. Resolution: Full HD+, that is 2160 x 1080 pixels. In daily use, no questions arise: color reproduction is normal, the stock of brightness is good, viewing angles are excellent.
One of the strengths of the brand new Xiaomi Mi A2-very high performance for its price category. The device is running Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 with the integrated graphics accelerator Adreno 512. This chipset can handle absolutely any mobile games on the maximum graphics settings – the frame rate will be sufficient for a comfortable game. If you like the numbers from the benchmarks, then in AnTuTu device gets more than 130,000 points, and in the graphics test 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme – 1300 points. Similar signs are shown only by morally obsolete flagships and modern smartphones, the prices for which start at least from 350$ – 400$. Unambiguous wine!
Multitasking and speed of the system are flawless. First, even in the basic version of Xiaomi Mi A2 comes with 4 GB of RAM, and high at all as much as 6 GB. Secondly, the device is running a “clean” Android Os – no third-party add-ons that slow it down. There are also prospects for the future. You remember that the release of the Android P just around the corner? The ninth version of the “Android” is rumored to be presented at the end of August or in September. So, Mi A2 will definitely get this update among the first.
Where is the catch, you ask? Alas, it really is: in the younger version of the smartphone, which will certainly become the most popular, only 32 GB of internal memory. The device, of course, is “dual-SIM”, but there is no option to use microSD, and it forces to pay extra for the version 64+4 GB. NFC, too, unfortunately, was not delivered.
Photographs unexpectedly cool!
The camera, which could be said “wow”, from Xiaomi Mi A2 no one expected, but the developers of the smartphone were able to surprise. The device uses a bunch of two modules. This is the main IMX486 with a resolution of 12 MP and an aperture of f / 1.75 and an auxiliary 20-megapixel IMX 376 with a similar aperture. At the same time, they are also quite well tuned, which surprisingly turns Mi A2 into one of the best smartphones – for the fans of mobile photography.
For very complete happiness, except that optical stabilization is not enough, which would make the quality of night shots even better, but no one offers this option in this price range. In addition, the device separates the foreground from the background quite qualitatively and programmatically blurs the background, does not pass before macro shooting, pleases with good detail of photos during the day and a relatively small amount of noise at night.
You will like the front camera, too. The resolution is 20 megapixels, there are a flash and auto focus. The result cannot be called one of the best class, but it is quite decent. There are no problems with color rendering, noises do not spoil the frames with a lack of light, despite the high resolution, and the detail is above average.
Autonomy is not surprising, but there is a fast charge
The capacity of the built-in Xiaomi Mi A2 battery is 3000 mAh, and with this indicator, in terms of battery life is not good enough. Full charge is enough for the day without mobile games when not too active use.
The device is charged from the USB type-C connector and this is important! Supports fast charging technology, which in practice is very helpful. In just half an hour the device can be charged from 0 to 60%, and an hour to bring the figure to 95%. For “Mid budget” – it’s a great result!
In Europe, Xiaomi Mi A2 starts from 249 euros for the basic version with 32 GB of built-in and 4 GB of RAM which is quite attractive. Few competitors in the same price segment can offer such high performance, same good dual camera and “pure” Android with a real possibility of upgrading to version 9.0. With the lack of NFC and the need to use an adapter for headphones is quite possible to accept.
But absolutely perfect things do not happen – this is the truth of life.
